One of the most common conditions we see in the clinic, adhesive capsulitis is also known as frozen shoulder. Patients who have this problem are unable to rotate or move their shoulder very much. Wearing undergarments or hair brushing become difficult chores. The condition responded to injection into the shoulder joint within a month from onset. Results are not as good after 1 month- so this needs to be treated as soon as possible for minimally invasive treatments to work. This is rapidly followed with physical therapy.
This can co-exist with frozen shoulder conditions. The rotator cuffs are tendons around the shoulder that initiate shoulder movement before the deltoid and other larger muscles continue the rest of the movement. The tendons can tear or fray. Small tears can be left untouched or they have be treated with keyhole repairs. Sometimes a simple ultrasound guided injection is enough to help.
Calcific tendinosis is a painful irritation of the rotator cuff tendons around an area of tendon calcification. The Indonesian term for this is “kekapuran” which is chalky infiltration of the tendon- and accurate description of the condition. Ultrasound guided barbotage is a treatment option.
