The collateral ligaments are supporting structures that bend and stretch during activities, all the while keeping the ankle joint stable. A serious ankle rolling or twisting injury will result in tears of the ligaments around the ankle, and can be associated with tendon and bone injuries. We provide pitch side support for such injuries, and also injections for pain relief in chronic ligament injuries.
The unifying contributory cause is due to tight gastrocnemius muscles- often seen in high heel wearers and also atheletes with large calf muscles. The taut muscles of the calf result in plantar flexion- and increased pressure at the Achilles insertion and also the plantar fascia. The plantar fascia is a tight ligament at the heel which runs on the sole of the foot, providing support to the arch. Achilles tendinitis and plantar fasciitis related pain is often treated with a combination of painkiller injections, botox to relax the calf muscles, or radiofrequency ablation of the irritated nerves.
